THE TREASURE PRINCIPLE KEYS
1. God owns everything. I am His money manager.
We are the managers of the assets God has “entrusted” not given
to us.
“The earth is the Lord’s and everything in it, the world, and all
who live in it.” (Psalm 24:1)
“Remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you the
ability to produce wealth.” (Deuteronomy 8:18)
“You are not your own; you were bought with a price.” (I
Corinthians 6:19-20)
2. My heart always goes where I put God’s money.
Watch what happens when you reallocate your money from
temporal things to eternal things.
“Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”
(Matthew 6:21)
3. Heaven, not earth, is my home.
“We are citizens of a better country – a heavenly one.” (Hebrews
11:16)
4. I should live not for the now but for eternity.
From our present life on earth extends a line that goes on forever,
which is eternity in heaven. It makes sense to invest in things that
last forever.
“He is no fool who gives what he
cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.” Jim Elliott
“I denied myself nothing my eyes desires; I refused my heart no
pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the
reward for all my labor. Yet when I surveyed all that my hand
had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was
meaningless, a chasing after the wind, nothing was gained under
the sun.” (Ecclesiastes 2:10-11)
5. Giving is the only antidote to materialism.
Giving is a joyful surrender to a greater Person and a greater
agenda. It dethrones me and exalts Him.
“Command those who are rich in this present world not to be
arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain,
but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with
everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be
rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share. In
this way they will lay up treasure for themselves as a firm
foundation for the coming age, so that they may take hold of the
life that is truly life.” (I Timothy 6:17-19).
6. God prospers me not to raise my standard of living but to raise
my standard of giving.
God gives us more money than we need so we can give
generously.
“A tithe of everything from the land, whether grain from the soil
or fruit from the trees, belongs to the Lord; it is holy to the
Lord.” (Leviticus 27:30)
“Honor the Lord with your wealth with the first fruits of all your
crops.” (Proverbs 3:9)
“Each of you must bring a gift in proportion to the way the Lord
your God has blessed you.” (Deuteronomy 16:17)
“Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be
food in my house. Test me in this, says the Lord Almighty, and
see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out
so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it.”
(Malachi 3:10-11)
“See that you also excel in this grace of giving.“
(II Corinthians 8:7)
“Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down,
shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap.
For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you.”
(Luke 6:38)
“Now he who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will
also supply and increase your store of seed and will enlarge the
harvest of your righteousness. You will be made rich in every
way so that you can be generous on every occasion…” (II
Corinthians 9:10-11)
“The Lord Jesus Himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to
receive.’” (Acts 20:35) |
